Flores, Guatemala

It took us about six hours to travel from our home in Caye Caulker, Belize to beautiful Flores, Guatemala. That travel consisted of a one hour boat ride, a four hour van ride with an hour spent at the border waiting for the Guatemalan portion of our transportation.

But it was so worth it.

After crossing over the causeway to get to the tiny island city of Flores, the van driver tried to take us to the front door of our waterfront hotel. But we soon had to stop and backtrack because parts of the road that circle the perimeter of Flores were under water.

Many people travel back and forth from the main land in small gondolas.

We took a boat tour around the island.

And we were able to watch as young swimmers practiced for their upcoming swim meet.

The highlight of the visit was our day trip to Tikal.
